Well done to Mark and Tai who both had good matches and came away with wins for WYST

What a cracking night, the only problem is that people now want more

BRILLIANT

It came to Sunday and after an over complicated coaches meeting where it was decided that pee wees would not be allowed head shots it was on with the comp. The kids were on first and for WYST this meant, as ever that Amphon in the largest division was first match on. Playing the no head shots Amphon ran out a comfortable winner 10-1. The next match was closer facing a blue belt from Hadri Tkd, the result was the same and Amphon advanced to the semi winning 8-4. The semi was a closer match after the first round the scores were level despite Amphon landing some heavy shots. The other player retired injured and Amphon was onto the final. The final saw him facing a player who had beaten another scorpion player in the other semi. Amphon again played the idea match and took GOLD 15-5. 4 matches and lots of points for the fighter of the year competition!

Other results from the children were Terri-leigh winning silver in her 1st open, performance of the day went to Daniel C who knocked out every player he fought winning 4 matches and taking another GOLD.

Juniors and seniors were on in the afternoon, Jordan was into the semi, facing someone from Bath. The match started slowly but went the way of the scorpion player, Jordan winning 15-7. The final was a different occasion with the other player demonstrating how hard it is to hit someone when they consistently run away! Jordan had to settle for SILVER losing out 4-2

Michael was next facing a international standard player from fusion, Michael did really well not backing off or giving up but had to settle for BRONZE

Mike was also given a bye into the semi fighting well and being slightly unlucky with the scoring with the match going to golden point. The match was close throughout but Mike was piped to the point and it was BRONZE

Mark was last entering both the veterans and open division. In the -87 the scoring was harsh to say the least, the match somehow went to golden point at 7-7 Mark was slightly annoyed when the other players point went on and it was BRONZE

The Veteran division was different, in his first match Mark was on the game picking off each shot well quickly running away with the match which finally finished 10-2 (although this was at least the score) the final was a cagier affair but into the second round the game went towards Mark and he never looked back winning 4-1 GOLD

Some really good performances and some clear improvements in everyone with the final medal tally finishing 2 GOLD’S, 1 SILVER and 3 BRONZE. Well done everyone!!!

Littledown leisure centre Sunday the 16^th of May

We are stopping in an apartment 3 miles from the leisure centre

We will be setting of from Wakefield at approximately 12pm on Saturday and we will hope to return to Wakefield for 9pm on Sunday night.

Tracksuit

Gum shield

Running kit if they are close to the weight

Any problems with any of the above please contact me as soon as possible so we can sort it out. We are going down and making up a team of 17 players from Scorpion Taekwondo as well as representing yourselves and WYST so its best behaviour all weekend any complaining or protesting to be done thats my job. Scorpion coaches for the weekend will be Rich, Pete, however if needs be Luke Hudson can also coach as he is insured. Everyone going down have competed at opens before so lets work together to get some goo results. It should be a good competition with different people to fight so lets go and enjoy it and bring back some medals

Jaiden was first on in only his second match, evenly matched he faced a yellow belt from kings Tkd. Despite fighting well the match went the way of the other player, Jaiden settling for Silver with the score 14-11. Great match

Tai was on next facing Owen from Ian’s Scorpion club in Doncaster, Owen had already fought and had picked up a slight knock. The match finished in the first round when Tai was 5-0 up and fighting Brilliantly, Owen had to pull out due to injury.

Rachel was on next fighting in her first ever match competing against a player from Pulse Tkd of Huddersfield. The match was slightly mismatched put it didn’t put Rachel off and she was slightly annoyed that Rich didn’t let it go on longer. Well done

Mike was on to fight Jack Parkin from All star Tkd, someone he has faced numerous times before. A close match followed and unfortunately the match went the way of the all star player by 1 point. Bring on Bournemouth

Last few players then.

Mark faced an old friend called Ian from Hama Tkd yet another close match and slightly dubious scoring meant Mark also had to settle for runner up.

Jordan was on next, like other members of the team looking to use this event as a warm up for next week Dorset championships in Bournemouth. He faced a black belt from OTC. Yet another close match followed with Jordan landing an excellent 180 turning kick. The result went against us again with Jordan losing 11-10. Good effort!

Last player was Amphon and after a long morning of trying to find someone to fight faced a player from all stars, this time the match was mismatched in our favour and Amphon was in control all the way through winning 7-1.

A good day pleased with everyone, a few bit and bobs to work on in the club but bring on the next event!!

First off was the grading on the Saturday, thank you to all the parents for their support, Sue, Charlotte and Mike for helping to calm nerves and polish up on the kids patterns and of course the student for a good grading. Red belts were pushed hard and we now know what needs addressing for the big grading coming up soon.

Well done to the trophy winners; Best beginner went to Luke Pashley and Best graded went to Laura Woodrow. Well done you two. Full grading results will appear on here when everyone has received their results.

Chi 1-1

6 WYST players travelled up the A1 to the Chi 1-1 at Catterick leisure centre, after some comedy directions and running the tank dry of fuel we arrived ready for action.

Mike was first on facing current British bronze medallist Kye Tompkins from Chi, the first two rounds went the way of the Chi player, the last round was a lot better from Mike however the result went to Kye.

Michael was next and after cruelly missing the British championships with a broken foot was back in the ring. Fighting another player from Chi Michael went 2-1 down in the first round then 9-4 down in the next round. But showing a good fighting spirit Michael fought back just going down 9-8 well done.

Next on was Tai in the first of three WYST vs Koryo TKD matches. After having a bit of a rough ride in the last few matches Tai settled in quickly and the result was only going one way, Tai quickly wrapped up the match within a minute winning 10-0, a bit of a miss match but a good confidence booster!

Jaden was next on following his brother Tai and at the age of 4 and knee high to a grass hopper was surely the smallest competitor entered. Jaden fought excellent, never backing off and listening to every instruction. Despite this he had to settle for a silver going down 12-2. When we find another tiny person to fight it should be interesting.

Paris was on next, coached by Sue, at last was matched up evenly against a girl of the same height, weight, etc etc. After having a small lack of motivation at the side of the ring she soon settled into the match landing some cracking shots, somehow (I’m not sure what match they were watching) the scores were 9-9 at the end of the first. However Paris soon raced into a lead and never looked back, the match should have been stopped but I think the ref got giddy watching 46 clean shots!!!! (yes 46). The score ended 46-22, the best Paris has fought and fight of the day for us.

Last on was me and having said that I would fight I dusted down the pads and gave it a go, knowing nothing about the player I was matched against decided to take it steady, taking the chances presented the first round finished 8-0 the second round was going the same way (right leg bit chagi, right leg bit chagi…….) until the match was stopped at 13-0 following a head shot. Thanks to the Chi instructors this match raised £22 towards our Zoë’s place bike ride, cheers lads and lasses!
